''Lardington Lark'' is an upbeat, fun-filled mystery musical with somber undertones beneath it. Set at Lardington Hall, a boarding school for high schoolers specializing in arts and music, ''Lardington Lark'' follows incoming junior Terry Barnes as she pursues her passion for songwriting. Terry makes friends with Maggie Sherman, a senior who lives in the mansion next door, and Derek Adams, who connects with Terry through music. But almost from the minute Terry heads to her first class she encounters a series of strange occurrences in quick-hitting succession:
- A man she sees walking through the woods disappears mysteriously behind a tree;
- Songwriting class is interrupted when a series of wailing screeches seem to come out of nowhere;
- Signs are painted on a rock at school - ''Sherman Is Vermin'', ''Sherman Start Squirming''.
The events culminate when Terry is warned to stay away from Maggie. Over the course of the rest of the musical Terry, propped up by Derek's energy and sense of adventure, pieces together information to uncover what's going on at Lardington Hall. She and Derek discover a secret door leading to a network of tunnels beneath the school. Before telling anyone what she thinks, however, Terry foolishly puts herself in danger at the hands of the person she suspects. Derek has to rescue her but happily the mystery is solved.
''Lardington Lark'' has, in addition to strong female and male lead roles, over twenty-five other integral speaking parts ranging in age from 16 to 60. The audience feels challenged by the puzzle while enjoying wonderful music and laughing at snappy fast-paced exchanges spoken by likeable characters.
